India, Benin sign MoUs in various field

India and Benin today signed four MoUs on education, health and e-visa facilities. After the bilateral talks with his Benin counterpart in the capital city Cotonou, President Ram Nath Kovind today said in a press statement that both the countries have reviewed their global partnership.

President Kovind also thanked Benin President for his support for India’s candidature for permanent membership of UN Security Council.

Our correspondent reports the signing of the agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and official passports and agreement on the fresh line of credit of 100 million US dollars by India to finance development projects in Benin.

Two more MoUs are signed on tele education program e-vidyabharati and Tele medicine initiative e-Arogyabharati. Under these programmes, India is extending free tele-education courses to 15,000 students and telemedicine courses to 1000 doctors and paramedics in Africa.

Benin also extended its support for India’s candidature for permanent membership of UN Security Council. In addition, both countries also discussed defence and security cooperation. Later, the President will address the national assembly of Benin in Porto Novo.
