Shri Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde to be the next Chief Justice of India

Shri Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde specialized in constitutional, administrative, company, environmental and election laws.

On Oct 29, The President Shri Ram Nath Kovind has appointed “Shri Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde”, Judge of the Supreme Court (SC) as the next Chief Justice of India with effect from November 18, 2019.

As per the Ministry Of Law & Justice, He has been a Judge of the ‘top court’ since April 12, 2013. Earlier he served as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (HC) for about six months since October 16, 2012. Further, He has also been an Additional Judge of the Bombay HC from March 29, 2000 and a Permanent Judge from March 28, 2002.

Shri Justice Bobde, born on April 24, 1956, was enrolled as an Advocate on September 13, 1978. Bobde started his practice at the High Court Bench at Nagpur and the District Court at Nagpur and occasionally at the HC at Bombay and the Supreme Court of India in civil, constitutional, labour, company, election and taxation matters.

Significantly, He specialized in constitutional, administrative, company, environmental and election laws. He completed his graduation at SFS College Nagpur and studied Law at Nagpur University in 1978. He enrolled as an advocate on 13 September 1978, and became Senior Advocate in 1998.

Despite all of this, A three judge bench of the Indian SC, comprising Bobde, Jasti Chelameswar, and Chokkalingam Nagappan, ratified an earlier order of the top court and clarified that no Indian citizen without an Aadhaar card can be deprived of basic services and government subsidies.
