Indian Oil kicks off Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign from Mahim beach

Indian Oil’s Chairman, Mr. Sanjiv Singh; Director (HR), Mr. Ranjan Mohapatra; and Director (Marketing), Mr. Gurmeet Singh along with hundreds of IOCians, members of Mahim Beach Clean-up Association and concerned citizens came together on a pleasant Saturday morning to sweep away the Mithi River flotsam and trash thrown by locals that have sullied the sands of the coast. The garbage collected was picked up by trucks from the BMC later during the day.

Indian Oil sport stars including Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw (Cricket); Aditya Mehta (Billiards & Snooker); Divij Sharan (Tennis); and Kajal Kumari (Carrom), also participated in the clean-up drive. Kick-starting IndianOil’s efforts, Mr. Sanjiv Singh launched the nationwide Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2018 campaign on International Coastal Clean-up Day by voluntarily cleaning up the Mahim beach along with IOCians working in Mumbai city.

Mahim beach is one of the dirtiest beaches of Mumbai as the Mithi river ends there. “Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2018 Campaign” will be observed by IndianOil Corporation from September 15th to October 2nd 2018. The fortnight- long campaign focuses on a cleanliness drive as a part of the 150th birth year celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. During the campaign, various Swachhta activities will be undertaken through Shramadan / Gift of Labour, by more than 20,000 employees across various units of IndianOil.

“Indian Oil has always strived to be a part of every nation building activity. With initiatives like this, we hope to make a significant contribution towards the Swachh Bharat vision,” said Mr. Sanjiv Singh. “We also welcome the efforts of Mahim Beach Clean-up Association which is striving for a clean sea,” he added. As a token of appreciation IndianOil donated 10 public area mobile dustbins to Mahim Beach Clean-up Association. The International Coastal Cleanup day is conducted in various parts of the world on the third Saturday of September every year under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) & South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) in the South Asian Region.
